Abstract

Islamic boarding school (Pondok Pesantren) is an educational institution was founded by an Islamic Leader (Kiai) together with his students. The learning system in each Islamic boarding schools are different each other. However in general, they have identical intention. Along with the development of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia, Islamic boarding schools have shown their contribution to this state at the education side, especially in the religious domain. At present, Islamic boarding schools are setting up to put on show by advancing formal institutions, life skills and further ability as a equipping for the student’s life in society. The existence of Islamic boarding schools cannot be separated from the influence and the role of kiai. Kiai as the man who control and transfer religious perception to the pesantren community whose focuses in the development of religious insight. The aims of this research are to describe and analyze how Kiai’s leadership model at at Pondok Pesantren Al Istiqomah Petanahan Kebumen. This research used a qualitative-descriptive research, data collection using observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews. The data sources are Islamic Boarding School’s Caretakers, Male Boarding School Management, Female Boarding School Management, Santri, and other supporting document data sources. With the data analysis techniques, data collection, data analysis reduction and drawing conclusions. The results showed: First, the Board of Caregivers shared their roles in the institutions under of Islamic boarding school’ shade. Second, in the certain situations K. Ali Mu'in decides the matter which are urgent. Third, the leadership applied by KH. Ali Mu'in Amnur had an effect on the organization of Islamic boarding schools, as well as the massiveness of the caretakers to pour out their ideas for Islamic boarding schools, increasing public trust, and having implications for the development and advancement of Islamic Boarding Schools both in terms of quality and quantity.
